Saxophone Artistry is a 1-year program that aims to take you from your current saxophone skills to a more advanced level with a unique step-by-step method proven to transform your playing, musicality and mindset.

It begins by teaching you the fundamentals of saxophone playing going in-depth into sound & technique, timing & rhythm, learning tunes, jazz fundamentals and the art of practising.

You will learn to incorporate essential concepts in your playing - from expressing yourself by playing tunes you love to playing faster melodies, gaining excellent control on the saxophone and more.

Through a unique syllabus designed to empower you with all the tools you need to master the saxophone, it encompasses a variety of music in different styles and exercises that will make playing the saxophone an extension of yourself.

Requirements

Pre-requisites & Course Specific Requirments

The student should:

  • ​Have studied saxophone for 12 months minimum
  • ​Be able to produce a sound comfortably on the entire range of the saxophone
  • ​Be able to play the major, minor scales and arpeggios up to 3 sharps and 3 flats
  • ​Have basic experience reading treble clef
  • ​Have some basic knowledge of basic rhythm notation: quarter, 8th and 16ths
  • Basic understanding of time signatures of 2/4. 3/4 and 4/4
  • Basic understanding of ​dotted values & Ties
  • ​​Be able to play all slurred and all tongued articulations
  • ​Be able to play a 2-octave chromatic scale

  • ​Metronome (app or physical)

Assignments

Students are encouraged to record videos for assignments and feedback. 
Use the Video Exchange feature that allows students to get personalised advice through a video response by instructor Martino Scovacricchi.
Assignments will also be revised in the private Facebook group and during coaching calls.

You can use your smartphone, digital camera or webcam to do this and we do not require you to have an external microphone for recordings.

Instructor

Martino Scovacricchi

Martino Scovacricchi is a saxophonist, composer and cellist and the founder and director of the London Saxophone School.
Martino studied classical saxophone at the Royal Academy of Music and jazz saxophone at the Berklee College of Music.
He has performed with jazz legends Hermeto Pascoal and Peter Erskine. Martino studied with Hollywood Composers Conrad Pope and Christopher Young at the Hollywood Music Workshop in Vienna.
He works extensively across the UK as a soloist and has an acclaimed album of original compositions for saxophone entitled Melancolia Feliz.
He is a dedicatee of new works by contemporary composers and has delivered world premiere performances in several venues in the UK, Italy, USA, Mexico and Costa Rica including the Southbank Centre, Ronnie Scotts, Bolivar Hall, Teatro Regio di Torino, Universidad Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM), Teatro Nacional de Costa Rica among others. 
Founder and Director of the London Saxophone School: running 1:1 lessons, leading group classes and saxophone ensembles, organising student concerts, managing teachers, preparing students for music festival performances, preparing students for grades examinations, creating saxophone curriculums, examining students for London Saxophone School exams. Taught around 15,000 students so far. (2014 - ongoing)


- Creator of Sound Fundamentals online course: creating online saxophone curriculum for all levels focusing on sound and embouchure to help students improve their skills, online group teaching, and saxophone coaching calls (2021 - ongoing).
